Broadband spectrum is allotted

 

 

Indian Government today allotted Broadband Wireless Spectrum (BW) to 4 companies who won it in the recently held auction. Bharti Airtel and Aircel are also won in 3G auction. Reliance Communications, Idea and Vodafone failed to win license even in one circle to provide broadband wireless services. They will provide service through 3G. Government earned 38,540 crore from Broadband news.

 

 

Allotted spectrum: 20 MHz

 

Maximum broadband speed: 40 Mbps

 

Operating platform: WiMax or LTE

 

Advantage: They will start providing services 2-3 months ahead of 3G players.

 

Potential: Mukhesh Ambani targeted 10 crore broadband subscribers for Infotel by 2015.

 

 

Broadband wireless service providers:

 

 

1. Infotel Broadband Services (owned by Reliance Industries): It operates in 22 circles. They may start providing services from October. Infotel won nationwide license for 12,848 crore.

 

 

2. Bharti Airtel: It provides service in 4 circles. It won license for 3,314 crore.

 

 

3. Aircel: It operates in 8 circles. It won license for 3,438 crore.

 

 

4. Tikona Digital: They provide Broadband services in 5 circles.

 

 

 

Qualcom and Augere will get spectrum when they get license to operate in India. BSNL and MTNL needs to pay auction price.
