Pune is India’s first unwired city

Pune will soon become the first unwired city in India. Citizens of Pune will have high-speed wireless internet connection from anywhere in the city. They can access internet through laptops, PDAs and smart phone from any area of the city.

“Unwiring Pune” – the project was jointly announced by Intel and Pune Municipal Corporation in March 2006 and will be started on April 2, 2007. Infrastructure will be established by Intel along with Microsense, Chennai based company. The network will cover the entire 280 sq.km of Pune.

Intel will provide design and planning support, network deployment is carried out by Microsense.

Pune, the cultural centre of Maharashtra, will soon become wireless centre of India. It is way ahead of other Indian techno hubs like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Noida and Chennai in this aspect.

While rest of Indians are browsing with dial-up wired connections, Pune citizens will surf into high-speed wireless era. Congrats for the vision shown by Pune Municipal corporation authorities.
